FSU Picked 9th in MASCAC Football Poll

The Fitchburg State football team has been picked ninth in the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) preseason football poll.

Framingham State was selected as favorite to capture the 2018 MASCAC football title in a vote of the league’s coaches, capturing five of the nine first place votes to obtain 60 points. Following close behind Framingham State was Plymouth State with two first place votes for 52 points, while Western Connecticut State placed third overall with 50 points.

Worcester State followed in the fourth spot with 43 points, which included on first place ballot, while UMass Dartmouth and Bridgewater State finished in a tie for the fifth slot with 36 points each. Westfield State landed in the seventh sport with 21 points, while Mass. Maritime and Fitchburg State rounded out the 2018 MASCAC football preseason poll in eighth and ninth with 15 points and 11 points respectively.

The Falcons finished last season 3-7, including a 2-6 mark in MASCAC play. The team will play this season under Jim McGuire, who took over head coaching reponsibilities after former coach Patrick Haverty stepped down in February.

Fitchburg State will start the 2018 season on Sept. 1, hosting the Red Dragons of Cortland State at Elliot Field for a contest starting at 1 p.m.
