Former U.S. Boxing Coach Dies
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Chris Hitopoulos, a former coach for U.S. boxing teams and a South Carolina boxing administrator for nearly 50 years has died. He was 73.
Hitopoulos, who died Tuesday, served as the coach of amateur boxing team that traveled to Poland and the former Soviet Union in 1980 and to Canada in 1990. In 1982, he spent three months in South Korea organizing the Korean team for the Seoul Olympics.
He retired in 1996 as South Carolina’s chief boxing commissioner.
