Veteran Catcher Re-Signs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Kansas City Royals veteran catcher Mike Macfarlane has signed a one-year contract with the team for the 1998 season, the team announced Tuesday.
Terms were not disclosed.
Macfarlane, 33, appeared in 82 games for the Royals this season and made 75 starts. Macfarlane batted .237 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs. He committed only four errors for a .991 fielding percentage, and threw out 10 of the 35 runners who attempted to steal against him.
Originally signed as Kansas City’s fourth round selection in the 1985 free-agent draft, Macfarlane has spent eight of his nine major league seasons with the Royals. The exception was in 1995, when he played for Boston.
