ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ Reserve outfielder Orlando Palmeiro, a member of the Anaheim Angels since 1995, on Wednesday became the first player on the World Series champions to file for free agency.

The 32-year-old Palmeiro had a pinch double and scored a run in four World Series at-bats. He was hitless in his other two postseason at-bats.

A left-handed batter, he had 79 hits in 263 at-bats for a .300 average during the regular season. He had career-high totals of seven stolen bases and 31 RBIs.

The Angels have two other players eligible for free agency _ reserve outfielder Alex Ochoa and 40-year-old reliever Dennis Cook, who recently underwent surgery on his pitching arm and might retire.
