Cleveland man’s pinky severed while chasing pickpocket

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 64-year-old man had the tip of his pinky finger severed while chasing a robber in Cleveland’s Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhood, police said.

The robbery happened about 1o:30 a.m. Saturday in front of Nikki’s Market on Woodhill Road, south of Buckeye Road.

The man told police he went to the store and was walking back to his car, when a man ran up to him and stole his wallet from his right back pocket, according to police reports.

The man ran after the thief, who jumped into the passenger seat of a waiting car, police reports say. The man said he opened the thief’s car door, but the man slammed the door shut.

The man’s hand was caught in the door and severed the tip of his pinky finger. The car sped off.

The man drove himself to the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center for treatment, police reports say.

No arrests have been made in the case.
