THIBODAUX, La. (AP) _ Nakia Lumar rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns to lead Nicholls State to a 14-0 victory over Southern.

Nicholls State (5-3) held Southern (5-3) to just 155 yards of total offense.

Nicholls State scored on its first offensive series of both halves.

The Colonels went 53 yards on five plays in the first half then put together a 72-yard, 10-play series to begin the second half.

Nicholls State’s first scoring drive was aided by two encroachment penalties against Southern.

Lumar, who started the possession with a 22-yard run to the Southern 31, capped the series with a two-yard touchdown run.

Southern’s longest drive of the game went from the Jaguar 22 to the Nicholls’ 38. After two Marcus Jacoby incompletions on second and third down, Carlos Leach’s 55-yard field goal attempt fell short.

The Jaguars also had a 60-yard touchdown pass from Jacoby to Peter Shepperd called back by a holding call in the third quarter.

On Nicholls second drive, Lumar rushed six times for 54 yards. He also caught a 17-yard pass from quarterback Brad Zeller to move the ball into Southern territory.

Lumar scored on a 16-yard run.

Zeller completed 11 of 15 passes for 103 yards.

Nicholls State returns to Southland Football League play next week and continues its three-game home stand against Sam Houston. Southern plays host to Florida A&M.
