OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ The Denver Broncos, already beset by injuries, got even more bad news before Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders.

Bubby Brister, who was named the starting quarterback on Wednesday after backing up Brian Griese for the first four weeks of the season, was sidelined when he felt rib pain in his pregame warmups.

Brister strained an oblique muscle in his left side during a non-contact practice on Friday, though he was unclear how the injury occurred. Brister still planned to start until Sunday.

Griese, who struggled while the Broncos lost their first four games, was reinstalled as the starter.

Derek Loville, who was expected to start in place of injured tailback Terrell Davis, was inactive for the Raiders game. Loville is bothered by a strained left hamstring.

Starting in place of Loville was rookie Olandis Gary.
