Sword Assault Lands Lowell Man in Cuffs

March 13, 2019

LOWELL -- A dispute over living arrangements escalated when a tenant displayed a sword and threatened to kill his landlord in the city’s Highlands neighborhood Monday, authorities say.

The landlord fled the scene about 11 a.m. to notify police after 45-year-old Prasavath Khonesavanhv, of 50 Pine St., Unit 6, pulled out the sword, which was concealed in a cane, according to Lowell police Capt. James Hodgdon.

Lowell police took Khonesavanhv into custody at his apartment without incident. He was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon.

No injuries were reported.

Khonesavanhv was arraigned in Lowell District Court and ordered held without bail pending a mental health evaluation, according to a spokeswoman for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
