Owego wins $10 million for downtown redevelopment efforts
OWEGO, N.Y. (AP) — Owego is the latest winner of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s downtown revitalization prize.
The Democratic governor announced the $10 million funding award during a visit on Thursday to the village in the Tioga County in New York’s Southern Tier.
The money will support efforts to bring new housing and businesses to the downtown.
A panel of local officials and community leaders will work with professional urban planners to finalize plans for the money.
Earlier winners have used the funds to improve parks and open space, upgrade roads and transportation networks and support efforts to bring new residential and commercial developments downtown.
This is the third round of the contest revitalization contest. Other recently announced winners include Central Islip, Saranac Lake, Watertown, Batavia, Auburn, Rome and the South Bronx.
