Ebba F. Sonne, 101, formerly of Clifton, passed away peacefully, with her loving daughter by her side, on Sept. 16, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, Mass.
She was born in Clifton Nov. 16, 1916, the daughter of Laurids and Ane Marie (Jensen) Lauridsen. They preceded her in death.
Surviving are her son, Robert Sonne, and his wife, Jane Deeds, of Macy, Ind.; her daughter, Judith, and her husband, Jack Thornton, of Plymouth, Mass.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two foster children, Carol and Stephen Taylor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, August W. Sonne; and four sisters.
While raising their children, Ebba and August were very active in town activities and events in Morton Grove, especially helping to bring the idea of a senior citizens’ center to fruition. After her two children were grown, Ebba became a foster mother to children from the state of Illinois. For her dedication to foster care, she was awarded Cook County foster mother of the year. In 2000, Ebba moved to Massachusetts to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She knitted and crocheted hundreds of items for local charities. In her 100th year, Ebba won three blue ribbons at the Big E Exhibition and Agricultural Fair for items she crocheted. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
A private burial service will take place in Illinois in the spring.
