Lowell Man Struck, Seriously Injured by Car in Chelmsford
LOWELL -- A 54-year-old Lowell man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a car on Billerica Road in Chelmsford Thursday afternoon, according to police.
Emergency crews were called to Billerica Road near Omni Way, a few hundred yards from the Route 3 interchange, about 2:40 p.m., for a report of a pedestrian struck.
They arrived to find the 54-year-old suffering from a life-threatening injury, and the driver of a silver Toyota that struck him still at the scene, according to police.
The Toyota remained in a parking lot near the scene on Thursday afternoon as Chelmsford police took measurements for crash reconstruction. Its driver could not immediately be reached for comment, and police did not release either the driver or pedestrian’s names.
The Toyota had a dent on its passenger side quarter panel, a broken passenger side mirror, and a small spiderweb crack on the upper passenger side of its windshield.
Chelmsford police said in a press release that the 54-year-old was flown by medical helicopter to a Boston-area trauma center. An update on his condition was not immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
