Blue Santas: Burnettown Police gift safe drivers during holiday giveaway

December 25, 2018

The officers at the Burnettown Police Department surprised residents all last week with gift cards during traffic stops.

Cpl. Jeff Miles, with Burnettown Police, said he and the two other officers at the agency each had 10 gift cards to give away.

The officers drove around throughout the week pulling over drivers who they noticed obeying the law by driving the speed limit and wearing their seat belts.

“This is just a little Christmas gift for people who show our appreciation,” Miles said. “Of course, it scared those who we pulled over, but then we would present them with the gift card.”

The gift cards the officers used were paid for by sponsors Hagers, US 1 Auto Sales, Midway Grill, Red Shedd Diner and Guanajuato Mexican Restaurant.

On Friday, Miles pulled over Taylor Randall, of Vaucluse, and presented her with a $10 gift card to Guanajuato Mexican Restaurant.

“You really scared me,” Randall said to Miles. “I was wondering why you were pulling me over - I knew I wasn’t speeding.”

Randall gave Miles a hug and went on her way.
