Northern DeKalb County residents still without power after storm
More than 100 ComEd customers in DeKalb County are still waiting this morning for their power to be restored after violent weather briefly ripped through the region Tuesday evening.
The ComEd outage map shows that the greatest concentration of customers without power is just north of Kirkland, where more crew workers are expected to join the cleanup and repair effort. More than a dozen other customers to the east of there, in Genoa and Sycamore, are still without power, according to the outage map.
Ricky Castro, a meteorologist in National Weather Service’s Romeoville, said wind gusts surpassed 60 mph in the Sycamore area around 4:30 p.m. A downed tree brought down power lines on High Street east of Somonauk Street and closed traffic to the area for a couple of hours. Castro said another tree came down and fell across County Line Road near Barber Greene Road.
Castro said a severe thunderstorm watch alert was posted at 1:42 p.m. Tuesday.
“That gave people about three hours’ lead time,” he said.
