Water Main Replacement Project To Begin In Hanover Twp.

April 16, 2019

HANOVER TWP. — More than 10,000 feet of water main lines in Hanover Twp., some more than a century old, will get replacements.

Pennsylvania American Water is replacing water mains on several streets in the township. Work will start this week on West Division Street.

The work will improve reliability, reduce service disruptions and increase water flow for firefighting by replacing the pipes, some that date back as far as 1890, according to the water company. The total cost of improvements is $1.6 million.

The pipes are a variety of widths. Some are two inches wide, some are four inches wide and some are eight inches wide.

All the replacements will be eight-inch pipes.

Crews will be working on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and traffic restrictions will be in place during the upgrades. Customers might see temporary service interruptions, discolored water or water pressure that is lower than normal.

The project will replace mains on the following streets:

• Dexter Street

• Wyoming Street

• Luzerne Street

• West Division Street

• Barr Lane

• Keith Street

• Woodbury Street

• Strand Street

• Little Street

• Spring Street

Pennsylvania American Water expects to complete the entire project by the end of the summer.
