SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) _ Zavata rolled to a 7 1/4-length victory Wednesday in the $150,000 Saratoga Special at Saratoga Race Course.

Awesome of Course jumped out of the gate in the 6 1/2-furlong race, opening two lengths, but the field quickly caught up and the five 2-year-olds were bunched on the far turn. Zavata raced widest and came off the turn with the lead, easily increasing the margin through the stretch.

Zavata finished in 1:17 3/5, and paid $2.90, $2.10 and $2.10. Lone Star Sky paid $2.20 and $2.10. Spite the Devil returned $2.10 to show.

``Unfortunately, he got caught five wide again, but fortunately he’s good enough to overcome it,″ said jockey Jerry Bailey.

Zavata, named after a popular clown in France, was caught wide in his debut, in which he ran second, and was caught wide again in the Tremont Stakes, which he won by 6 1/4 lengths.

A $575,000 purchase in February by Michael Tabor and trained by Patrick Biancone, has won three of four races and earned $204,040.
