Shawsheen Tech Boys Still Climbing Tournament Ladder
Senior center Jared Rizzo led the way with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks as Shawsheen Tech defeated Hamilton-Wenham, 64-56, in a Division 3 North Sectional boys basketball quarterfinal held at Tewksbury High.
Senior Casey DeCost tossed in 15 points for the Rams while senior Zach Mickle added 13 points.
Shawsheen led 31-22 at halftime.
The third-seeded Rams (19-4) will play tenth-seeded Weston (12-10) in a semifinal matchup Wednesday at Burlington High at 7 p.m.
Hamilton-Wendham finishes with a 13-9 record.
Shawsheen has advanced to the sectional semifinals for the first time since 2004. The Rams defeated Wilmington in the first round.
Division 4 Central Quarterfinals
Notre Dame 21
Blackstone Valley Tech (15-6) topped Academy of Notre Dame in a Division 4 Central quarterfinal.
Natalie Kelleher paced Notre Dame’s offense with 10 points.
Ashley Tovar (5 points) played well for the Lancers (12-10).
Gr. Lowell 44
Jordan Tucker checked in with 22 points, 15 rebounds and 4 steals as Maynard defeated Greater Lowell Tech in a Division 4 Central quarterfinal.
Maynard (17-5) jumped out to a 30-18 halftime lead.
Emma Rossino scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for Greater Lowell.
Kaelynn Tanner (11 points), Aliza Som (9 points, 6 rebounds) and Fatta Krah (8 points, 8 rebounds) played well for the Gryphons.
Greater Lowell finishes the season with a 14-8 record. The Gryphons beat West Boylston, 50-35, in the first round.
