BELLE FOURCHE –– The Belle Fourche High School Class of 2019 graduated Saturday celebrating the closing of one of life’s chapters and the beginning of the next.

“Today we get to celebrate the accomplishments of the 89 graduates seated in front of me,” Mathew Raba, principal, said. “The future leaders of our country in almost every field imaginable sit in front of me. They are talented academically, athletically, musically artistically, and have showed empathy and understanding to those that need it most.”

Steve Willard, superintendent, passed congratulations onto the graduating students.

“This isn’t an end; this is a beginning,” he said. “You’re going to continue to have challenges and I think you’ve been prepared to take them.”

“We should hold in high regard the accomplishments of our entire class,” Salutatorian Sydney Fuerst said. “We will always find a way to succeed. I know this because the class of 2019 is special. We are all destined for our own form of greatness.”

Valedictorian Molly Ryan, who graduated with a 4.26 grade point average, gave her fellow students an encouraging message about the future.

“As I look out at all of you today, I realize how much we’ve grown together as a class,” she said. “No matter where life takes you, keep this poem of Mother Theresa’s in the back of your mind: ’People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may see you as being selfish; be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough; give the world the best you’ve got anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God; it was never between you and them anyway.”

Ryan congratulated her classmates and wished them successful futures.
