Recruit watch: Husker recruits continue to help lead teams on playoff runs
Nebraska defensive back recruit Quinton Newsome (Suwanee, Georgia) had six tackles and two pass deflections in North Gwinnett’s 41-7 playoff win against West Forsyth.
Husker wide receiver recruit Darien Chase (Camas, Washington) caught four passes for 69 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown, in Union’s 49-35 win against Bothell in the Class 4A state quarterfinals.
Husker running back recruit Rahmir Johnson (Oradell, New Jersey) rushed 17 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns in Bergen Catholic’s 35-17 playoff win against Don Bosco Prep. Johnson scored on runs of 44 and 62 yards to help Bergen wipe out a 10-7 halftime deficit. Bergen Catholic will play St. Joseph Montvale in the state final at MetLife Stadium.
Nebraska linebacker recruit Jackson Hannah (Nashville) had nine tackles, including two for losses, in Montgomery Bell Academy’s 28-6 loss to Brentwood Academy in the Class 3A playoffs. Hannah also rushed for 21 yards.
Husker quarterback recruit Luke McCaffrey (Littleton, Colorado) threw for 82 yards and rushed for 19 more yards in Valor Christian’s 34-7 Class 5A playoff win against ThunderRidge.
Husker athlete recruit Jamie Nance (Blanchard, Oklahoma) had four catches for 48 yards and a 19-yard touchdown in Blanchard’s 36-14 playoff loss to Poteau. Nance also rushed for 17 yards on two attempts.
Husker offensive tackle recruit Bryce Benhart (Lakeville, Minnesota) helped lead Lakeview North to a 35-13 state semifinal win against Lakeville South.
NU offensive lineman Michael Lynn (Englewood, Colorado) helped pave the way for 246 rushing yards in Cherry Creek’s 24-16 win against Ralston Valley.
Husker offensive lineman Matthew Anderson (Leesville, Louisiana) helped lead his team to a 27-14 playoff win against Assumption. Leesville is in the state quarterfinals.
