O’Neal, Pippen Fined for Criticism
NEW YORK (AP) _ Shaquille O’Neal was fined $10,000 Monday and Scottie Pippen received a $5,000 fine for their actions toward the referees over the weekend.
O’Neal was upset with the officiating crew of Bennett Salvatore, Gary Benson and Tom Washington after Sunday’s 92-89 loss at Seattle. O’Neal thought he was manhandled by Sonics center Olden Polynice.
``Every team plays hack-a-Shaq defense and I still don’t get the calls,″ he said. ``I’m going to start to break people up. Whatever it takes.
``I hope they (the NBA) fine me.″
Pippen was ejected from Houston’s 109-83 loss at Orlando.
He was called for a technical foul while sitting on the bench early in the fourth quarter, then was ejected after exchanging words with referee Hue Hollins with 4:41 remaining.
The fines were announced by Rod Thorn, the NBA’s senior vice president of basketball operations.
