New Milford reviews blight ordinance
A panel of town department heads has been created to review and update New Milford’s blight ordinance.
The current ordinance, which was adopted in 1999, is limited to buildings more than properties in general. The panel will address blighted properties on abandoned and neglected private properties, according to a news release.
A draft of the new or revised ordinance will be presented to the mayor’s office and Town Council. There will also be a public hearing on it.
Mayor Pete Bass said in the release that he hopes they can create something that will allow town officials to tackle blight from a variety of angles.
“Blighted properties have been a lingering issue in New Milford for many years,” he said in the release. “Eyesores that have been neglected are a nuisance to both residential and commercial taxpayers and those who patronize our businesses.”
