Western Carolina 68, Tennessee-Chattanooga 66

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) _ Larry Maye hit a driving layup with 40 seconds remaining Saturday as Western Carolina defeated Tennessee-Chattanooga 68-66 in the Southern Conference.

The Catamounts led 66-64 before two Taylor free throws tied the game with 1:09 left.

Maye hit 3 of 4 field goal attempts and was 6-for-6 from the charity line to finish with 12 points for the Catamounts (12-12 overall, 5-7 league). Scott Scholtz and Joel Fleming each added 16 points for Western Carolina, and Jarvis Graham had 10.

Western Carolina shot 55 percent from the field for the game and led 36-33 at intermission.

The Moccasins (17-9, 10-2) outrebounded the Catamounts 38-19 and led by as many as nine in the first half.

Johnny Taylor led Tennessee-Chattanooga with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Willie Young and Marquis Collier each added 11 points.
