Rangers, Benoit Agree to Contract
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) _ Joaquin Benoit and the Texas Rangers agreed Wednesday to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
The 28-year-old right-hander went 4-4 with a 3.72 ERA last year. He pitched in 32 games and started in nine. He is 19-19 with a 5.17 ERA in his career.
Benoit missed the early part of the season with shoulder tendinitis and saw some time on the disabled list with right elbow tendinitis. He can earn $25,000 bonuses for appearing in 55 and 60 games.
Texas has seven players still eligible for arbitration: first baseman Mark Teixeira, right-handers Adam Eaton and Vicente Padilla, catcher Rod Barajas and outfielders Gary Matthews Jr., Kevin Mench and Brad Wilkerson.
