Body of 18-year-old recovered from Quemahoning
Search and rescue teams successfully recovered the body of an 18-year-old man who disappeared Monday at the Quemahoning Reservoir.
Ligonier Valley graduate Joey Dubics, 18, was paddleboarding with two friends when he went underwater and didn’t resurface, according to state police.
Scalp Level-Paint Deputy Fire Chief Dave Boyer, who was leading the search, said that Dubics’ body was found at 1 p.m. Saturday through the use of submersible sonar or small remote-operated submarines.
The teams from four fire departments, three dive teams and the sheriff’s tactical search also used drones, divers, safety patrol boats and sonar in the nearly week-long search. Seventy volunteers helped with the search on Saturday alone.
Dubics was found in a 74-foot-deep area of the reservoir. Boyer said the teams had finalized the recovery by 3:30 p.m.
He was not able to say how many man hours went into the search in the week.
Somerset County Coroner Wally Miller could not be reached for comment Saturday.
