Aiken Main branch of Regions Bank to close in April

January 19, 2019

The Aiken Main branch of Regions Bank, which is on the corner of Chesterfield Street South and Richland Avenue West, will be closing in the spring.

April 19 is the last day the branch will serve customers.

Regions is consolidating its banking operations in Aiken, said Mel Campbell, a Regions spokesman, on Friday.

The South Aiken Regions branch on Whiskey Road will remain open.

“In recent years, Regions has taken a very deliberate approach to evolving how we serve our customers, looking at both new models for business and our branch locations,” Campbell said. “Our focus has been on enhancing the total customer experience across all our delivery channels and reviewing locations and policies so we can use our resources as efficiently as possible.

“A careful review of our branch locations around Aiken,” he continued, “identified opportunities to consolidate based on new technology, volume, proximity of other branches, profitability and other factors. We will make every effort to identify other jobs in the company for affected associates where possible.”

Campbell added the consolidation wouldn’t have an impact on other Regions branches in Clearwater and North Augusta.

Regions Financial Corp., which has approximately $126 billion in assets, is based in Birmingham, Alabama.

The company serves customers in the South, the Midwest and Texas. Through its subsidiary, Regions Bank, it operates approximately 1,500 banking offices and 2,000 ATMs.

Regions Financial Corp. on Friday reported a record net income from continuing operations in 2018 of $1.5 billion. The amount was a 28 percent increase from 2017.
