Mail carrier bitten by dog in Springfield

September 12, 2014

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A mail carrier was taken to the hospital to get stitches in his leg after he was attacked by a dog in Springfield.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service says carrier Randall McCutcheon was delivering mail Thursday in the Liberty heights neighborhood when two pit bulls came charging out the front door. One of the dogs clamped down on McCutcheon’s leg.

Police responded to the scene but it’s not clear of the dogs’ owner will face charges.

The owner, Angelica Ithier, tells WWLP-TV that her usual mail carrier drops off the mail in the mailbox at the side of the house. She says McCutcheon went to the front of the house where there is no mailbox. She says she also has a warning sign on her fence.
