With grant funds, the Rice Family Foundation supports eligible, local nonprofits in the greater Hanover, Pennsylvania and surrounding communities who dedicate their time, efforts, and resources to foster a better community. Grant funds are supported by commitments made by the Rice family to start the Foundation.

In early 2018, The Rice Family Foundation invited local nonprofit organizations to apply for grant funds by July 31 st. After careful review of the applications, The Rice Family Foundation selected recipients based on those exceptional organizations and their various initiatives which benefit so many people in the community.

The recipients of the grant funds have varying missions, from Olivia’s House, a grief and loss center for children, to the Guiding Hearts with Hope, a community recovery organization, to Big Brothers Big Sisters of York and Adams county, helping children to succeed and thrive in life.

One organization, New Hope Ministries, Inc., a social service agency, is a grant recipient who works to help neighbors in times of need with a focus on “basic needs”, such as food and shelter. New Hope Ministries also offers a range of stability programs including GED preparation, job training, cooking and nutrition classes, among others. “ We are grateful to The Rice Family Foundation for their generosity,” said Molly Helmstetter, Development Director, New Hope Ministries, Inc. “ Having supported over 7,000 people in the Hanover area alone this past year, this grant will be used to support the most important basic, yet essential recipient needs.”

Survivors Inc., provides those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking with a 24-hour hotline, counseling and an emergency shelter, among other services, was excited to be a grant recipient. “ In the past few years, we have seen a steady rise in individuals and families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking, ” said Terri Hamrick, President & CEO, Survivors, Inc . “This grant will further support our operation’s needs, as our current needs are continually out-paced by our available resources.”

Another organization, Club ODAT or “One Day At a Time”, provides safe, furnished meeting facilities for Board-Approved Recovery Groups to conduct meetings (like Alcoholics Anonymous ® ), was also a grant fund recipient. Club ODAT’s facilities are used to help those recover from alcohol and drug addiction and do so in a safe meeting place which also offers other recreation, social events, and more. “ We appreciate this gracious donation from the Rice Family Foundation,” said Jerry Brode, Board President, Club ODAT. “ This grant will enable Club ODAT to expand its services, workshops and sober events, strengthening recovery in the Hanover and surrounding communities.”

These thirty-two, nonprofit organizations, are just some of the many working to support the greater Hanover and surrounding communities. “ In working through the numerous grant fund applications, we were so impressed and grateful for the nonprofits who do so much for so many in our community. This challenging work and support aligns well with the mission of The Rice Family Foundation, which emphasizes education, health and the well-being of the greater Hanover, Pennsylvania community, ” said Jane Rice, Co-Founder, The Rice Family Foundation.
