Police: Man arrested for firing at car, shooting daughter
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Police in Alabama have arrested a man they say shot his own 9-year-old daughter in the shoulder while firing at a moving car during a possible child custody dispute.
News outlets report 39-year-old Robert Hooper was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder in the Sunday shooting. Mobile police Cpl. LaDerrick DuBose says Hooper shot into a car carrying his daughter, other children and a woman believed to be the girl’s mother.
The daughter was the only one wounded, and she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He says investigators believe a child custody dispute led to gunfire, prompting the car to drive off in an attempt to flee. He says the shooting continued as the car fled along Interstate 10.
It’s unclear if Hooper has a lawyer.
