Skateboarders take off on a race down 17th Street during the annual Poage Landing Days festival on Saturday in Ashland.

ASHLAND — The Poage Landing Days festival did not disappoint the crowd of visitors, some of whom traveled for hours for its fiddles, deep-fried Oreos, skateboards and friends.

The Winchester Avenue event offered free to the public an antique car show, streets full of arts and crafts and food vendors and a Southern Fried Cone Fest skateboard race that attracted some of the best slalom skateboarders from across the country.

The Ashland event was highlighted by the Ed Haley Fiddle Festival, which pays homage each year to one of the best fiddlers to come from Appalachia.
