WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) _ Yevegeny Kafelnikov, the world’s fourth-ranked player, will team with Alexander Volkov, Andrei Olhovsky and Marat Safin in Russia’s first-round Davis Cup match against the United States.

Andre Agassi, who has won 15 straight Davis Cup matches, tops the U.S. team for the April 3-5 matches at Stone Mountain, Ga.


LAS VEGAS (AP) _ The Triple-A World Series between the winners of the International League and Pacific Coast League will be played in Las Vegas the next three seasons.

Under an agreement approved Tuesday, the games will be played, beginning Sept. 21 this year, at 10,000-seat Cashman Field, the home of the Las Vegas Stars of the PCL.


MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Glenn Robinson, the Milwaukee Bucks’ leading scorer, was placed on the injured list Tuesday night because of a bone compression in the tibial plateau of his left leg.

Robinson, who is averaging 23.4 points, joins starting point guard Terrell Brandon on the injured list. Brandon is sidelined by an ankle injury.


PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ The Philadelphia 76ers signed center William Cunningham to a 10-day contract Tuesday.

Cunningham is expected to fill in for forwards Derrick Coleman, sidelined by a sprained ankle, and Scott Williams, out with a abdominal strain. Both were placed on the injured list Monday.

Cunningham, 23, started two games with the Utah Jazz after signing a 10-day contract Feb. 14. In six games for Utah, he averaged 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per game.


OGDEN, Utah (AP) _ Montana basketball coach Blaine Taylor was suspended Tuesday for the first game of the 1998-99 season for critical comments about the officiating in last week’s Big Sky Conference tournament.

Taylor’s remarks followed Montana’s 68-60 loss to Montana State in a first-round game Thursday in Flagstaff, Ariz.

``The Big Sky Code is very specific about public remarks about officiating,″ commissioner Doug Fullerton said. ``Making derogatory comments about officials to the media will not be tolerated.″


EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) _ The New York Giants signed running back LeShon Johnson and receiver Eddie Goines, both free agents.

Also Tuesday, the Giants re-signed receiver David Patten, tackle Jerry Reynolds and safety Brandon Sanders. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Johnson, also a kick returner, rushed for 812 yards last season for Arizona. Goines was waived by Seattle before last season.


BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) _ Gabriel Batistuta and Claudio Lopez scored goals as Argentina beat Bulgaria 2-0 in an exhibition soccer game Tuesday.

Batistuta, who missed Fiorentina’s 1-1 with Piacenza in the Italian League on Sunday to join Argentina’s national team, scored in the 34th minute Lopez scored in the final minutes.
