BOSTON (AP) _ The Texas Rangers turned the third triple play in franchise history Monday night, doing it in the fourth inning against the Boston Red Sox.

With runners on first and second moving on the pitch, Scott Hatteberg lined to shortstop Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez flipped to second baseman Randy Velarde, who forced Brian Daubach for the second out. Velarde then tagged Chris Stynes to complete the triple play.

Velarde turned an unassisted triple play on May 29, 2000, for Oakland against the New York Yankees.

The Rangers previous triple play came June 17, 1999, against the New York Yankees.

Boston hit into its first triple play since Tim Naehring grounded into one on June 6, 1996.
