Water main leak to close Kish College after noon Friday
MALTA – Courses at Kishwaukee College will go on as usual until noon Friday, at which point the serious work will begin on a water main that’s been leaking, according to Bill Nicklas, executive director of development at the college.
“The good news is it’s a thinner schedule in the afternoon,” Nicklas said.
He said as those courses are taking place, contractors will be digging in and finding out the extent of the problem. The main at issue is at the west end of campus, whereas a main break in February canceled classes, as well as the college’s 50th anniversary kickoff event.
The plan is to have the main fixed so Monday classes can proceed as usual, but Nicklas conceded that depending on how things play out – the severity of the issue once contractors have dug into the ground – a boil order could be put into effect.
“Our plan is to be ready by Monday,” he said.
He advised students and parents to keep an eye on their portal and the Kish website. The Chronicle will also provide updates.
