CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) _ Just days after winning the national championship, Miami juniors Clinton Portis and Phillip Buchanon said they will enter the NFL draft and two more Hurricanes might do the same.
Tight end Jeremy Shockey, Miami’s leading receiver last season, and defensive tackle William Joseph, who started every game the last three years, also are considering leaving school early. They have to decide before Friday, the deadline for underclassmen to apply for April’s draft.
Portis, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound running back, had 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He carried 20 times for 104 yards and scored a touchdown in the Hurricanes’ 37-14 victory over Nebraska in the Rose Bowl on Thursday.
``There isn’t much more I can do in college,″ Portis said Sunday.
Buchanon, a 5-11 cornerback, intercepted five passes this season. One of the fastest players on the team, he also had 31 punt returns for 464 yards and two touchdowns.
