Travel tip: As summer crowds depart, try these destinations
Crowds can take most -- if not all -- of the fun out of visiting a popular tourist destination in the summertime.
How many horror stories have we heard (or told) about waiting for hours to get on a single ride in an amusement park like Disney World?
Here are a few travel meccas within the United States (in no particular order) that can be much more pleasant to visit in early fall, when temperatures are still pleasant and the hordes have departed for home, work and school:
1. San Francisco
2. The Grand Canyon
3. Washington, D.C.
4. Charleston, S.C.
These places offer the added bonus of spectacular fall foliage:
5. Yellowstone National Park
6. Asheville, N.C.
