EUGENE — The Roseburg High volleyball team kept its share of first place in the Southwest Conference race with a victory over South Eugene on Tuesday night at the Purple Pit.

Set scores were 25-13, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22.

The Indians (9-5, 5-1 SWC) completed a regular season sweep of the Axe (11-7, 3-3), who are in third place. Sheldon (14-6, 5-1) defeated North Medford in four sets Tuesday in Medford.

“It was great,” said RHS coach Doug Magee. “The girls played really well. South Eugene is good, but we stayed scrappy.”

The Tribe had several players contribute offensively and defensively.

Chay Swenson led Roseburg with 15 kills and Hannah Bartlett added 11 kills. Karey Lomica finished with 33 digs and seven aces, while freshman Mallory Malysz contributed 25 assists, 11 digs and six aces in the win.

Breez Hansen and Faith Jordan each chipped in six kills, Morgan Johnson had eight kills, Rylee Russell made 15 assists and nine digs, and freshman Micah Lake had 16 digs.

Magee said sophomore middle blocker Grace Ellis, who has been swinging between the varsity and JV, performed well off the bench.

Roseburg will compete in the Bend Clearwater Classic on Saturday and host Sheldon Oct. 9.
