Record attendance for state one acts
NORFOLK - Norfolk saw a record attendance for the high school state one-act play production championships at the Johnny Carson Theatre.
Director of the Norfolk Area Sports Council Rachel Reiser says when Norfolk first hosted the event they had just over 3,000 people and this year saw over 4,600.
Reiser says the change to the Class A portion of the competition had a helping hand in that number.
“What the NSAA decided is that they were going to take from the three districts two teams. In the past we only had four Class A plays, this year and in the future we’ll have six. Adding those two also helped with attendance, and the nice thing about it is when they take first place and runner-up from each of those districts, it’s much more likely that Norfolk will qualify each year.”
Reiser says they sold out of tickets for all of the Class A performances, which was a first.
She says Norfolk will host the competition again next year, and rebid in 2020.
