PREP ATHLETES OF THE WEEK — SEPT. 13-SEPT. 19
JENICA DELANEY — GIRLS GOLF
After a rough start to the season, Lake Havasu sophomore Jenica Delaney has dialed in and consistently made her presence known on the golf course.
Last Tuesday, the Knights No. 1 shot a 47 in Kingman at Cerbatt Cliff Golf Course. That was seven strokes lower than the last time Havasu played there on Sept. 4.
“I’ve just been trying to get my confidence back,” Delaney said. “It was kind of intimidating to be playing No. 1 for the first time.”
So far, her confidence looks to be back and here to stay.
This week marks the first time any athlete on the golf team has scored in the 40’s in four straight matches this season.
The entire month of September, Delaney has consistently been scoring in the 40’s. She has also has led her team in strokes since the start of the season.
JACOB SCHAFER — Football
Last Friday, Lake Havasu senior Jacob Schafer scored three touchdowns for the Knights in their 28-14 win over Phoenix Moon Valley.
All three each came by way of rushing, receiving and a kick return.
It was the second three-touchdown game for the senior, with the first coming against Lee Williams in the season opener.
Against Moon Valley, Schafer had 96 rushing yards, 92 receiving yards and 97-yards that came in a kick return that ended with one of Schafer’s touchdowns.
In all, Schafer recorded 285 all-purpose yards off three receptions and seven carries last Friday.
Schafer has a total of seven touchdowns, 648 all-purpose yards and is averaging 11.5-yards per carry and 23.8-yards per catch this season.
