Swann goes to hospital with arm injury

July 1, 2013

CHELMSFORD, England (AP) — England delivered a positive medical bulletin on Graeme Swann after the offspinner went to hospital for an X-ray after being struck on the arm during an Ashes warm-up match against Essex on Monday.

Swann misjudged an attempted pull shot off Essex bowler Tymal Mills while batting for England on day two of the four-day match, and was hit on the right forearm. He batted on, making 94, but didn’t take to the field following England’s declaration.

″(The) X-ray showed no fracture,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said. “He is continuing to receive treatment for bruising and will return to the field later in the game.”

When he returned from hospital hours after being struck, he had a bandage on his arm.

Swann will be England’s frontline spinner in the Ashes series, which starts with the first test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on July 10.
