BERN, Switzerland (AP) _ A body found last week under six feet of ice on a Swiss Alps glacier has been identified as a man who disappeared 72 years ago, police said Tuesday.

Johannes Naegeli, 66, vanished in 1914 on a glacier near the 10,606-foot Mount Oberaarjoch in central Switzerland. He was on his way home to the village of Willigen when he disappeared, Bern police said.

Naegeli was identified through missing person reports and the accounts of Willigen residents. Police said a document on the body confirmed Naegeli's identity.

His remains were discovered Thursday when two mountain climbers spotted his studded boot sticking out from the ice. Rescuers also found an ice ax with the body.
