Community Table continues to serve: Community event 10 years old and still going strong
WAUPUN — A free lunch, plenty of chatter, and friends and strangers all crowded together.
That’s what happens every Friday at the Community Table, 13 S. Mill St.
“It all started about 10 years ago when the Rev. Peter Bird helped set up and organize the empty store that used to house the Waupun Chamber of Commerce,” said Community Table coordinator Ann Hoekstra.
“The Community Table is next door to the Waupun Food Pantry. On Friday, people come in to the pantry, then come over and get a free meal and enjoy some fellowship. Anyone who wants a meal is welcome.”
Over the years, churches, fraternities, civic clubs, schools and school clubs such as the FFA have all brought in food and served it to anyone who wishes to attend.
