Fire destroys home outside Garrett
Fire quickly tore through a Summit Township home Thursday afternoon, according to fire crews.
The Garrett, Meyersdale and Rockwood fire departments responded to the working structure fire at 172 Smithton Road, near Garrett, at 4:08 p.m. No one was injured.
Resident Barbara Lee said she and Lisa Dumle were in the one-story house earlier after shopping.
“We went down to her mother’s (house) to get the dogs and everything,” she said. “We came back and the smoke was coming from the roof.”
Garrett Fire Chief Dave Davis said crews observed flames on the porch when they arrived on scene. Crews had the fire knocked down within minutes of arriving. The house is considered a total loss.
“They got heavy fire damage in the front two rooms,” Davis said.
Davis added that it was an accidental electrical fire.
Dumle said the home was not insured. The American Red Cross was notified. Meyersdale EMS also responded to the call.
