ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Anchorage police have identified a man fatally shot by an officer as 56-year-old Charles McBride.

Police say McBride fired at officers responding to a neighbor's call that he opened fire on her.

Police say McBride lived in a four-unit condominium where the neighbor lives in another unit. The woman reported her window was broken Wednesday night.

The woman told police she and a maintenance worker were inspecting the damage outside when the man emerged from his garage and began shooting at the two, who were not injured.

Police say that McBride later came out of his garage again and shot at responding officers, and one officer returned fire.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave. The case will be submitted for review by the state Office of Special Prosecutions.
