4: Sauk County Board selects new leader
In the April election, voters unseated four incumbents and elected 12 new members to the 31-member Sauk County Board.
Later that month, the newly-seated board chose Supervisor Peter Vedro of Baraboo as its chairman, ending Supervisor Marty Krueger of Reedsburg’s 12-year run in that position.
The leadership change signaled a shift in the board’s longstanding power balance, and Vedro pledged to bring about a new era of transparency and inclusiveness.
But bitter rivalries among supervisors have persisted, and Vedro narrowly survived an attempted ousting in August that was organized by critics upset over advisory referendum controversies.
The board later voted to accept the proposal of a conflict resolution specialist, who agreed to work with supervisors free of charge.
