Goslings place first in pool play on opening day of Sun Prairie volleyball invite
Watertown placed first in its pool on the opening day of the Sun Prairie Invitational on Friday, finishing 5-0.
The Goslings swept Edgewood (25-11, 25-21), Marshfield (25-11, 25-13), De Pere (28-26, 25-7), Manitowoc (25-16, 25-12) and Waupun (25-11, 25-13).
Senior middle and outside hitter Brianne Korducki led the Goslings with 27 kills, eight blocks and seven aces. Junior setter Isabelle Schauer put up 92 assists. Junior outside hitter Samantha Gray added 22 kills. Senior middle Ashley Stas and sophomore right side Alayna Westenberg each had 16 kills and five blocks. Senior libero Sheridan Dettmann led in digs with 53 while senior outside hitter/right side Allie Stair added 20 digs.
“There were some ups and downs, but the girls did well batting through it,” Watertown volleyball coach Carrie Hein said. “They didn’t give up. They came together as a team, and worked hard together to make plays happen and get things done. Bri was a solid anchor, leading in aces, kills and blocks. Those numbers speak for themselves. She helped get us out of some tough spots and her teammates played well around her.”
Watertown (9-2) enters the championship bracket today starting at 10 a.m.
