Developer offers free rent to Paterson police officers
PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey developer says he will offer rent-free apartments to police officers who want to live in some of his properties in Paterson.
JCM Investors owner Charles Florio says he is expecting nothing in return for the offer, and rent will be free as long as officers offer proof-of-residency. Florio tells WNBC-TV the offer would also extend to Passaic County Sheriff’s Department officers.
Paterson’s corporation counsel, Dominick Stampone, says there’s been no official request to the city so they could not comment. Florio says he’s already received interest from city officers.
Paterson’s police chief was unavailable for comment, but the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department says it will defer to ethical and legal experts to determine if officers could participate.
