Campus Connection For March 20

A collection of local athletes performing well on the college level. Baseball • Scranton freshman Josh Lydon (Dallas) came in for relief and recorded his first career college strikeout against Ohio Wesleyan last week. • Cabrini sophomore JD Barrett (Dallas) helped the Cavaliers sweep a double-hitter against Gwynedd Mercy this past weekend. Barrett went 4 for 6 with two RBIs and a home run. • Chesapeake sophomore Livan Reinoso (Hazleton Area) had impressive numbers in the previous 10 games for the Skipjacks. Reinoso combined for 10 hits, four RBIs and drew 12 walks. He has a .561 on-base percentage and only four total strikeouts at the plate so far this season. • St. John’s redshirt sophomore Ryan Hogan (Valley West) recorded two hits and 4 RBIs in a five-game stretch this past weekend. • Bloomsburg freshman Jared Marshman (Berwick) and sophomore Kyle Ofier (Pittston Area) both had a recent week to be proud of. Marshman recorded his first college career start and win against Virginia State, where he tallied three strikeouts allowing only three hits. Ofier had six hits, five RBIs and a home run in a five-game stretch. Softball • Morgan State junior Haylee Bobos (Hanover Area) and senior Mikaela Browdy (Hazleton Area) continue to have the hot bats for the Bears. In a doubleheader against South Carolina State, Bobos and Browdy combined for five hits and five RBIs in the sweep. • Pitt Johnstown sophomore Kristen Coffay (Holy Redeemer) recorded her first two wins of the season in the circle this week. Coffey recorded a season-high four strikeouts in a win against New York Institute of Technology, then threw a one-hitter to beat Saint Michael’s. • Lycoming freshman Morgan Klosko (Valley West) continues to earn her spot in the lineup at DH. In the last four-game span, Klosko had three hits, three RBIs and was left on base six times. She has a .400 on base percentage to start off the season. • Drexel sophomore Megan Trivelpiece (Hazleton Area) had three hits including a home run in a 10-0 win over Saint Peter’s this past weekend. • Susquehanna sophomore Brittney Hebda (Holy Redeemer) has two hits and three RBIs so far this season. Last week, against Kean University, Hebda hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the 2nd inning. Men’s Lacrosse • Frostburg State sophomore goalie Corey McAndrew (Dallas) got some action this past weekend. In 13 minutes between the pipes, McAndrew had five saves without allowing a goal in a 16-6 win over Goucher. Women’s Lacrosse • Keystone senior Alex Smith (Coughlin) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Week from Feb. 23 to March 9. She scored seven goals in two games including five in an 11-10 win over Lancaster Bible.• Lebanon Valley freshman Julia Gabriel (Wyoming Seminary) recorded two unassisted goals in a 14-8 win against Shenandoah this past weekend. • King’s freshmen Natasha Koslop (Crestwood), Emily Sims (Wyoming Seminary) and Bailey Jordan (Pittston Area) and sophomore Emma Lehman (Dallas) all scored in a win against Penn State Abington last week. • Gwynedd Mercy freshman Meleah Hoats (Hazleton Area) has become a reliable offensive weapon, recording 11 goals and four assists in the first 10 games of the season. • Wilkes freshman Laura Bayzick (Hazleton Area) scored three goals in the win against Old Westbury on Saturday.
