ROCKFORD U.S. 20, state Route 2 construction will bring delays
ROCKFORD – The Illinois Department of Transportation’s $24 million reconstruction of U.S. 20 and state Route 2 Interchange is underway.
The dual bridges, which date back to the early ’60s and carry U.S. 20 over Route 2, will be replaced, and the existing cloverleaf interchange will be reconfigured into a diamond interchange with new signal installations at the ramp intersections with Route 2, said Chris Aude, IDOT resident engineer.
Flaggers will be in place as needed, ramps will be closed periodically and detour signs will be in place. Also in place will be state troopers to make sure motorists are traveling within the posted construction zone speed limit and are not driving while talking on a cellphone or otherwise distracted.
Motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly.
The work is expected to continue through October 2020.
