Fairgrounds, rodeo volunteers honored
Volunteers mean everything to the success of events at the Adams County Fairgrounds and that’s why Fairgrounds officials recognized those contributions Thursday.
Members of the Adams County Agricultural Society board and fairgrounds staff honored the volunteers and committee members of the year for both the Nebraska High School Rodeo and Oregon Trail Rodeo during the Fairgrounds’ kickoff Thursday evening. The kickoff was part of a Business After Hours organized by the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Everything,” said Scott Hinrichs, Ag Society board member who chairs the Oregon Trail Rodeo committee, when asked what volunteers mean to fairgrounds events. “They’re the ones who help organize and do all the work before and help throughout the rodeo. It wouldn’t be possible without volunteers.”
Award recipients are:
— Trish Hinrichs, Nebraska High School Rodeo committee member of the year
— Heather Mohling, Nebraska High School Rodeo volunteer of the year
— Roger Pesek, Oregon Trail Rodeo volunteer of the year
— Patrick Niles, Oregon Trail Rodeo committee member of the year
“We can’t do our events without volunteers,” fairgrounds manager Jolene Laux said. “There’s so many reasons why we need volunteers. They’re a huge part of it.”
Not only were volunteers recognized during the kickoff Thursday but so, too, were the sponsors.
“That’s a huge part of it because that’s where a lot of our funds come from to even put on these events,” Laux said.
