Cleveland police identify suspect arrested in fatal shooting of 2

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Two men were killed Thursday afternoon by a man who entered an East Side home and opened fire, according to police.

A suspect in the shooting, Jason Gideons, 39, was arrested at a McDonald’s restaurant less than a mile from the scene, police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia says. A handgun was recovered.

Police were called to the home in the Lee-Harvard neighborhood on the 17500 block of Holly Hill Drive at about 3:20 p.m., Ciaccia says. When officers arrived, they found two men, ages 45 and 52, inside the home, both with multiple gunshot wounds.

The 52-year-old victim, identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office as Resean Lance Payne, of Cleveland, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at University Hospitals.

Police say Gideons is suspected of entering the home and shooting the two men for unknown reasons.

A woman who did not want to give her name says she heard about five gunshots. She says she saw a man run from the home with a gun, put it in a car and run down the street.

The shooting remains under investigation.
