Fire destroys garage in Somerset
A structure fire destroyed a garage built apart from a home on 1048 South Park Avenue on Sunday morning.
“It was fully involved and the roof had already collapsed in,” Somerset Fire Chief Mike Livengood described the scene as being. “It was just the block walls that were standing.”
About 25 firefighters from Somerset, Listie, Friedens and Rockwood battled the blaze for half an hour after being dispatched at 3:32 a.m. The firefighters used a hydrant as the water source, and Livengood said they didn’t have problems with that or anything else while combatting the flames. Livengood said he didn’t know the cause, but he didn’t suspect arson.
The building was insured and lacked smoke detectors. The name of the owner was not disclosed. The scene was cleared at 5:23 a.m.
