GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Officials say two people are dead after being pulled from the water off Gloucester’s Eastern Point.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Gloucester Police Department say they responded to a report of a man and woman in the water off the rocks calling for help around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Officials say rescue crews found the pair and performed CPR. They were taken to an area hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

It’s unclear why the man and woman, who were not immediately identified, were in the water.
